Merriam’s Turkey:
Of the four major varieties of wild turkeys found in North America, the Merriam’s turkey is perhaps the most striking. With their ivory tipped fans, their stunningly iridescent plumage, and their ubiquitous and vocal presence across the vast meadows and wooded ridges of the high country, the springtime splendor of the Merriam’s turkey is a major component which defines the soul and character of the lodge.
Fishing:
From the diminutive upper Poso Creek to the high canyon headwaters of the Brazos River to the broad expanse of the Poso Valley, the opportunities abound for stream fishing. The streams hold brown trout, brook trout, cutt’bows, rainbow trout, and the rare and elusive Rio Grande Cutthroat. Whether you are a seasoned fly fisherman or a relative newcomer to the sport, you can and WILL catch trout here.
There are over a dozen high country lakes which hold heavy bodied 16 to 30 inch trout which will truly test your fishing skills. These trophies are an integral part of why this lodge has earned and maintains a reputation for fishing excellence.
