Introduction:
With over 100 different stand locations, this outfitter will guide you to an exciting free range hunt on over 15,000 acres of private lands in southeast Kansas.  Kansas is one of the top producing states for trophy whitetail in the country.  The states #2 non-typical archery buck (257 B&C) was taken with this outfitter.  Prime agricultural land for corn, soy beans, milo and alfalfa make up about 50-60% of the hunting properties.  The remaining land is primarily hardwood travel corridors and bedding areas. The lodge is located 2 ½ hours south of Kansas City, KS, near Pittsburg, Kansas.  This hunt is primarily in unit 11.

Accommodations:
You will enjoy the new 3,000 square foot lodging facility nestled in the woods of Southeast Kansas.  While the lodge is not luxurious, it is functional, comfortable and clean accommodating 8 hunters. It has 4 rooms with 2 twin beds in each room. Two rooms share a bathroom between them. The lounging area, kitchen and dining area are in the center of the lodge.

Meals:
Breakfast is continental style with pastries, cereals, oatmeal, juice and coffee. You will make your own lunch if you plan to hunt all day. Sandwiches, crackers, fruit and home-baked cookies are all plentiful so take out all you want. The night meal is good home style cooking that will fill you up!

Hunting:
Muzzle loader hunts are the first hunts of the year. These are 2x1 guided hunts where your guide will take you to your stand and drop you off. You will be hunting over or near food sources primarily or trails in the woods. You could be on the ground or up in a tree.

Weather is a big factor for this hunt. If it’s cool, the deer should really be moving. If it’s hot, it could be a tough hunt with the deer only moving at first and last light.

Bow hunts are 2x1 semi-guided, meaning a guide will drop you off at a stand and pick you up but he will not sit with you. Bow hunters will hunt from ladder stands, lock-ons or ground blinds.  The October hunt is pre-rut where the deer are more patterned so you have a better chance at taking a nice buck. The November hunts are during the rut so all bets are off but the big ones are on the run! No patterned bucks this time of year!  They are fanatics about stand placement and set up!  NO MECHANICALS ALLOWED

The two week rifle season is in December which is usually the secondary rut.  During this short season, the worse the weather the better the hunting.  Hunts will be over food sources from tower blinds primarily.  Long shots of 300-400 yards are possible. You could hunt from tripods, ladder stands, lock-ons or ground blinds as well depending on the circumstances.  Hunts are 2x1 guided meaning you will have a guide sit with you on one of the two sits each day to help you glass. They do not allow any stalk hunting. Kansas allows baiting.  The outfitter baits according to location and hunters desires.

Big bucks roam Kansas and this area of Kansas!  Our clients have seen them and can testify to that fact.  However, seeing them and harvesting them are two different things altogether.  Since this is a free-range operation, there is a possibility that you could go home empty handed.  We believe this outfitter is the most committed to setting up the “perfect stand” that we have ever witnessed.  They will do everything in their power to give you a successful hunt!

“Small Buck” Penalty Fee:
A strict 130 B&C minimum score is enforced for all whitetails taken. There is a penalty fee of $800 if you shoot an 8pt. that scores less than 130 or a 9pt or better that scores less than 140. You will prepay this penalty fee along with your final payment before the hunt. This fee will be refunded to you before you leave camp assuming that you do not shoot a buck smaller than the minimum.

Non-Resident Deer Tag:
Non-residents may apply for their deer tag online from April 1-29, 2011.

Kansas is a straight lottery draw for non-resident tags beginning with the 2008 season. The Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks guaranteed the state legislature there would be tags for everyone. Based on this information our outfitter feels you should get a tag. If not, you may have a 100% refund or rebook for the next year.  Application deadline is April 29.

After I book this trip...What's Next?
1.  A&AW (Antlers & Anglers Worldwide) will invoice you for a 50% deposit and send you a release form to confirm your spot and a link to the pre-trip planner.

2.  We HIGHLY recommend travel insurance which can be purchased via the link at the bottom of this page.  Travel insurance is time sensitive and must be purchased within 14 days of the initial deposit to recieve the most complete coverage.  It protects you from medical expenses while traveling, cancellation due to natural disaster, illness, death in the family, and lodge closings; in this day and time, anything is possible.  Lodges count on you to protect your investment.

3.  Make your travel arrangements and check on your passport if needed for this trip.

4.  A&AW will send you a detailed clothing & equipment list.  Be sure to look it over to see if you need to plan ahead for any special purchases!

5.  120 days out from your trip, you will receive a final invoice for the remainder of the balance due 90 days before the trip.

6.  The final countdown information details will be sent to you which will include emergency numbers and directions.

TRAVEL ARRANGEMENTS:
If you need help with your airline travel and accommodations before or after your trip we recommend Jacky Keith, president of Esplanade Travel in Boston.  Contact her at jkeith@esplanadetravel.com or 800-628-4893.

TRAVEL INSURANCE:  HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
While Antlers & Anglers does everything in our power to protect our clients from travel problems however we cannot prevent illness, deaths, or lodge closings; we live in uncertain times!  The only way to guarantee your investment in your trip is through travel insurance.  Most health insurance companies do not cover international medical expenses. There are many good companies available.  We recommend Travelex because of their service and their company ratings.   The Travelex Insurance link is available through our website at the bottom of this page.

Antlers & Anglers is similar to a travel agent in that we send your payments directly to the outfitter.  Should something unforeseen happen, Antlers & Anglers will only be able to refund money that fits the lodges' refund policy!  Please buy travel insurance for your protection.

Finally, travel insurance is time sensitive and must be purchased within a certain number of days of your deposit to cover preexisting conditions, lodge closings and other various issues.  It is still available later but the benefits may be more limited.

GLOBAL RESCUE:
As a service to our clients, the Global Rescue link is available through our website at www.globalrescue.com .  Global rescue will actually rescue you from any location, even the bottom of a cliff.  They have ex special ops rescuers, jet service and Johns Hopkins doctors on call to assist you anywhere in the world.

DEPOSIT, REFUND POLICY, AND RELEASES:

  • A signed liability release waiver for Antlers and Anglers Worldwide, LLC is required and must be sent with the initial deposit.
  • Each lodge will have their own release for you to sign upon arrival at the lodge.  If you want to participate, you will be required to sign a form.
  • 50% non-refundable deposit with your signed release will be due at the time of booking to hold your spot.  Your spot is not guaranteed until you deposit is received.
  • The remaining balance of the trip cost will be due 90 days prior to your departure.
  • Due to the financial exposure from cancelled trips, lodges are revising and tightening their policies on cancellations and refunds; in more and more instances they are not permitting refunds, re-scheduling, or substitutions.  In light of these new policies and the uncertain economy, Antlers & Anglers Worldwide, LLC (AAW, LLC) strongly recommends the purchase of travel insurance.  Since the cost of your trip is significant and must be paid in advance and prior to your departure, you stand to lose a considerable sum of money if you must cancel your trip or if something unforeseen happens.  If the lodge will allow substitutes, you may substitute one or more persons in place of yourself or others who have confirmed reservations for your trip.  Payments by individuals who are substituted for one or more persons on your trip will be credited toward payments made by such person(s) to AAW, LLC.  To the extent of any such payments, AAW, LLC will issue a corresponding refund.  If requested, AAW, LLC will assist you in your efforts to find a suitable substitute, although no assurance is given that one will be found.
