Lodge Capacity: 50
Introduction:
National Geographic rates this lodge as one of the top 100 adventure lodges in the world! Everyone in your group or family will find wonderful adventures that suit their taste at this lodge. Numerous adventure and fishing packages make this a fantastic destination.
Sitting on 25 acres of the original homestead site, the Kenai riverside lodge is at the very core of all they do. Overlooking the confluence of the Kenai and Moose rivers and an amazing view of the snowcapped Chugach Range, the envy of other Alaska fishing lodges features a quarter mile of what is unquestionably the finest shore fishing on the Kenai River.
In addition to the great Kenai River fishing, the confluence of the Moose and Kenai also provides them access to the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge...just over a mile upstream from the lodge this warm, meandering and shallow stream is home to a prodigious amount of wildlife- nesting Tundra Swans, giant Alaskan Moose and Brown Bear, Lynx, Otter, Beaver, Eagles, Osprey and much more call this area home. Each evening canoes and kayaks are on the beach for your use to explore them on your own… Also offered guided trips that range deeper into the area and return via shallow running custom riverboats.
You won’t need to travel with your fishing equipment as all equipment is included in their packages! This is an all-around fantastic lodge whether fishing is your passion or sightseeing nature is your goal.
Accommodations:
Riverside main lodge:
Located on the banks of the Kenai River, their amenities include private bath, in-room fireplace, mints on your pillow each evening, "coffee to your door" wake-up each morning. The rooms are comfortable with a fireplace in each room. Add to that the great happy hour and well prepared meals in the river and Mountain View dining room.
Bear camp:
In the shadow of glaciered Mt. Illiamna, between snow peaked mountains, forest and the sea, lies “Bear Camp”. 12 guests at a time will share this special area, housed in comfortable, heated tent-cabins complete with beds with mattresses, propane light, writing desks. Your private cook will prepare healthy fresh meals along with wine and beverages. The attentive, knowledgeable staff will teach you the ins and outs of staying in bear country, while sharing with you the knowledge that can only be gleaned from actually living with these magnificent animals. This is one of Alaska’s most exclusive bear viewing destinations. THIS IS A MUST FOR ANY TRIP TO THIS LODGE!
Meals at the lodge:
Your hosts understand that your time off the water or trail is an important component of any vacation experience. At this lodge, they seek to provide a comfortable, accessible place away from the "Real world". The chef and his staff serve up authentic and fresh American favorites that everyone can enjoy. Vegetarian and special dietary needs or kid's items are handled daily, and all meals provide options to "go light" or stock up for the following days adventure! In the evening prior to happy hour be sure and check out Mike's bacon wrapped Halibut chunks or his smoked salmon and Dill spread on thick rustic crackers.
Dinner is generally served plated tableside but also occasionally buffet style, depending upon the meal. The menu focuses on fresh fish (salmon and Halibut) with tasty sauces. The "all American" turkey and stuffing dinner is also one of the favorites year after year. Vegetarian and other specialty diets are also accommodated happily. Many meals offer variety of fruits and vegetables so that you may tweak your own personal diet yourself. Of course, this being a vacation, desert is also served after dinner!
Happy Hour:
Each evening, as the boats return from the rivers and saltwater and the guests return from their various mix of activities (sport fishing, scenic or whitewater rafting, wild bear viewing hiking, canoeing, glacier and wildlife cruising are but a few of the options), the staff in the kitchen is busy readying a wonderful dinner. Their family-friendly happy hour kicks off the festivities at 7:00 guides, managers and guests all gather to discuss the exciting events of the day.
This is more than just pre dinner drinks.....this is your chance to meet with your guide for the day and share pictures, or meet your guide for tomorrow and discuss the style of fishing you prefer. Or even get fitted for waders if you are wade fishing for trout or steelhead on your experience tomorrow.
Wildlife and sightseeing guests will learn about the next day’s destination as well as photo tips, how to pack, etc. In the nearly thirty years of providing these trips, this event has carved out a special place of importance with first time and returning guests.
Evening Activities:
Once dinner and happy hour is over, event activities rule the evening. Many guests choose to relax on the huge deck overlooking the confluence of the Kenai and Moose rivers, while fly fishermen may choose to tie a few flies on the fly tying bench in the lounge. Of course, most fly and spin anglers instead work their way down to the beach where they are fortunate to have the finest shore fishing on the legendary Kenai literally steps from your cabin. Each night a fishing assistant will have the fire going and the equipment ready for you- King, Silver, Sockeye and Pink salmon are all migrating right past the lodge and guests catch fish every single evening from mid-May till the end of the season.
In addition to the incredible fishing, they are blessed to be at the confluence of the Moose and Kenai rivers...and while the Kenai is a fast flowing, rocky and glacial stream, the Moose River is a slow, meandering gem of a stream that seldom reaches 6 foot in depth or less than 60 degrees in temperature during the summer. This, along with the abundant grasses that grow along its banks and bottom, create fantastic habitat for giant Moose, Tundra Swans (which nest during April and May) wood ducks, beaver, Lynx and more. They keep safe and stable canoes and flatwater Kayaks on the beach for your use, so photographers and nature lovers may paddle up the river to view the display. Hearty paddlers may make it 3 miles upstream to the permanent tent camp to stretch their legs and view the river from the high bank at the camp.
On certain evenings they also do a "Moonlight Moose" trip...the big moose come out in the evenings and sometimes they will see half dozen or more in a single trip down own of the favorite Alaskan dirt roads
What else is there to do at this destination?
Activities include flatwater canoeing, scenic and whitewater rafting, guided hiking, Kenai Fjords cruising, horseback riding, remote bear viewing, mountain biking, canoeing, and mountain flightseeing. Fly in bear viewing camp is a favorite of many guests and can be included in your package as a day trip or overnight(s).

Weather:
Weather in Alaska is unpredictable. You should be prepared for anything. It could be raining and cold one minute and instantly turn hot and sunny. We suggest layering to be ready for every weather situation.
Processing your catch:
All fish retained are filleted, wrapped and frozen as part of the package price. You may choose to have the fish boxed and taken with you as an extra piece of luggage (all included) or you may choose, as most of our guests do, some additional processing. Broiled Wild Halibut The most popular choice is to have the fish vacuum sealed and frozen, and then pick it up on your way back to Anchorage. This allows you to avoid the sometimes onerous overnight shipping expense, but still have the fish professionally processed.
Also popular is to simply elect to have the fish shipped home following your return home. The processor will hold the fish for up to two weeks and then ship it out to the address you provide- this is the and most expensive choice, but certainly the most convenient choice as it avoids extra bag fees from the airlines as well as schlepping the fish through the airport on the way home. It also allows you time to have the freezer space ready to go and receive your fish frozen, ready to put in the freezer when you are comfortably back home. Please note that if you choose additional processing, you'll have to pay for the boxing fee (about 25.00) as it has to be done by the processor at that point.
Physical Condition Needed:
Any physical ability is catered to.
Runway access for private planes:
Kenai (ENA) runway length is 7500 feet by 150 paved.
Airport Transfer to the Lodge:
The lodge's location makes arranging your trip a snap. Most trips feature any day arrivals and departures, as well as a no-charge pickup in Anchorage at one of three locations. There is a charge for the return trip back to Anchorage.

Calendar Legend: A = Available G = Good P = Peak
Alaska King salmon fishing on the Kenai River(5/15 - 7/31) has you fishing for the world's largest, averaging 35 - 60 pounds, with 1/2 a dozen topping the 80 pound mark falling to guests over the years. Countless 50, 60 and 70 pound salmon have been kept or released as well. Kasilof River king salmon average 15-35, with exceptional specimens reaching the high 60's. Trolling and drifting from power and drift boats (Kasilof River is drift only) in shallow water mean violent strikes with great fights. Beginners and experts enjoy success as the expert guides maneuver the boat to the fish- but once it's hooked…it's all up to you! It is truly an addictive fishery. Kings are also readily available on the fly.
Cohoe "Silver" Salmon
Silvers salmon fishing in Alaska (8/1 - 9/31) involves an acrobatic species that readily take spinners, spoons and flies with equal abandon. Nearly as popular as the famous Kings, they are a real hit with returning guests. A great catch and release species, they are also excellent table fare if you choose to keep a few and combine them with incredible trophy Rainbow Trout and Char fishing later in the August and September season. Casting spinners and flies are both tremendous ways of targeting these great game fish while in the river environment. 6-20 pounds. In addition to the great freshwater fishing in the Kenai and surrounding rivers, some of the finest Silver salmon fishing in Alaska occurs each year in the saltwater aboard their offshore boat "the Fair Chase" in Resurrection Bay and beyond during July and August.
Sockeye “Red” Salmon
Spawning Phase Red Salmon Sockeye Salmon (6/5 - 7/31) may be Alaska's most amazing and certainly tastiest sport fish. The first run migrates up the Kenai to the Russian river in May and June, however it's the second run, in July, that guests get most excited about. The run can number over a million strong, and thousands upon thousands gather in front of the lodge and make for great fun in the evenings after the King charters are over (in fact, many guests choose to target the Sockeye rather than the Kings!). The Sockeye’s eggs and decomposing bodies provide nutrients for the fat rainbows in August and September. 6-15 pounds. Sockeye are perfect for both spinning and fly rods, and their fighting ability is legendary. Pound for pound there is not a freshwater game fish in North America that can touch them.
Pink "Humpback" Salmon
Pink “Humpback” Salmon (8/1 – 9/1, Even years only) go sockeye one better. Endlessly entertaining, they are perfect for youngsters, beginning fly enthusiasts or anyone wanting to catch more fish than they can count. Pinks are a lower quality eating fish once they enter the river, however if caught in the tidewater on a strong early push of fish they are perfect for smoking or the barbecue, or anyone who enjoys a milder tasting fish. Their incredible numbers when they hit the river (from the last week of July till the 3rd week of August) are truly a sight to see. Pinks average 4-10 pounds and will strike anything, anywhere, anytime!
Alaska Trout and Steelhead Fishing
Spectacular Rainbow Trout, Dolly Varden and Steelhead Fishing
The guides, targeting surrounding rivers, consistently produce some of Alaska's most impressive Rainbow Trout and Dolly Varden catches. Trout season opens in mid-June, with the best fishing in August and September. As they are a delicate resident species, they practice catch and release on all Trout species. Vying with the Kings for label of “most popular sport fish in Alaska”, the Rainbow combines with excellent Silver salmon for great late-season angling right up until the end of September. 2-20 pounds.
The Waters:
Beginning in mid-June, they’ll fish over 60 miles of the amazing Kenai River to produce great variety, good numbers and outstanding individual specimens. For many returning fly fishermen, the August and September time frame cannot be surpassed. Sockeye, Silver and (on even years) Pink salmon combine with Trophy Rainbow Trout and Dolly Varden to make some truly astounding sport fishing. September adds beautiful steelhead fishery for some very fine steelhead fishing, as well.
All this terrain means lots of areas for the trout to hide...and with two lakes providing literally hundreds of miles of shoreline within the Kenai River system, their home river is uniquely able to produce really outstanding, native wild trout....and these amazing trout inhabit every inch of it. Each day you may find yourself exploring a new area that just became "the hot spot" a few days earlier...and could change back just as quickly! The guides are on these stretches of water every day, and they have been doing it for over 25 years, constantly changing colors, presentations and exploring every possible nuance that might mean the trophy on the end of your line. They have been licensed operators in the "limited Entry" areas of the upper Kenai Wildlife Refuge for decades as well.
While fly anglers covet the big trout, spin fishermen feel the same way, and spinning rods give up nothing, targeting the largest of the trout and silver salmon as well from both our power and drift boats. Combined with the lovely changing colors, crisp fall air and nearing end of season, August and September is one of their favorite times to be at this adventure Lodge!
The Kenai's Rainbow Trout fishery is a thing to behold. This lodge has been practicing strict catch and release on all Trout, Char and Steelhead for over a decade, and the fishing has simply gotten better and better each year. In addition to the spectacular Rainbow Trout, Dolly Varden (Char family) are also an amazing sport fish and readily available alongside the popular Rainbow, as well as available in August in some of the smaller streams that they frequent.
In addition to the trophy Rainbow of the Kenai, they target the 'Bows in high alpine lakes on fly outs, small hike-in tributaries of unnamed streams and even via float tubing on the world famous Kenai National Wildlife Canoe Trail.
Alaska Halibut Fishing &
Offshore Alaska Fishing Charters
Pacific Halibut reside in the deep, cold, nutrient-rich waters off the western and Eastern sides of the Kenai Peninsula. Few places in the world can boast of two completely separate and unique saltwater halibut fishing locations to target from a single location.
In mid-May and June, they target Halibut on the West side of the Kenai Peninsula, in Cook Inlet (often combining trolling for King salmon with bottom fishing for the tasty Halibut). They use fuel-efficient 23 foot open boats for quick runs to the grounds and lots of fishing space. In the early season, the Halibut move into the shallower water to breed and they are often fishing in as little as 75 feet of water- with the snowcapped volcanoes surrounding you and the sparkling waters of Cook inlet this makes for a truly memorable day of fishing. The sandy bottom of Cook Inlet make for a unique day of bottom fishing...unlike the east side of the Kenai Peninsula, the bottom structure here tends towards halibut only, so 90% of the fish they catch on these trips are Halibut, with catches averaging 20 -45 pounds per fish. Limit is two per angler per day.
They fish 23 - 29 foot custom aluminum powerboats and utilize a launching service behind massive 4 wheel drive "uber tractors" known in the Pacific Northwest as Log Skidders. The experience of getting in the boat and having the tractor back you down to the water and launch is one you will always remember.
In addition to the perfect sandy bottom, Cook Inlet's raging tides make fishing here a truly unique experience. The fish are nearly dormant between tidal cycles, with the current sometimes matching a rivers flow! (Imaging up to 26 or 27 feet of water emptying out of an area covering roughly 47,000 square miles... in 6 hours!) At times the flow is similar to the mighty Kenai. Because of this flow, the Halibut become nearly dormant between the tide cycles, hugging the bottom and letting the current rage over them- but when the water slows the fish feed aggressively , knowing their time is short. This aggressive feeding is what enamors this fishing to knowledgeable anglers, who know that timing is everything. Over the years they have found the best fishing on and around the "slack" tide, with especially good bites just before the water slacks and just before it reaches the "point of no return" or the point when you can no longer keep out gear on the bottom. Often time the best fish of the day is the last one!
Resurrection Bay/Kenai Fjords National Park
Later in the season, they add longer trips in Kenai Fjords National Park and target the Halibut in Resurrection Bay and Prince William Sound’s beautiful waters. In addition to the popular Halibut, Ling cod, Black Bass, Silver salmon and occasionally even King Salmon all are caught aboard the beautiful custom aluminum charter boat ”The Fair Chase”. Running 4 stroke Yamaha outboards, the custom- built aluminum Glacier Craft sport fisher (designed and built in Alaska, for Alaskan waters) is fast, safe and comfortable and features the latest electronics and a bathroom. Your captain and mate and only 6 anglers will plumb the depths of gorgeous Prince William Sound, Aialik Bay, Resurrection Bay and more. Stunning surroundings, Glaciers, whales, Sea Otters, Puffins and one of the world’s best-tasting fish make this one of our most popular days on the water.
The bottom structure in this region is completely different than Cook Inlet...with a much more moderate tidal swing (commonly between 7 and 12 feet) with innumerable pinnacles, trenches, troughs and drop offs, which all combine to provide and incredible environment for Ling Cod, True Cod, Yelloweye rockfish (red Snapper), black bass and much, much more. Literally each trip to the bottom with your bait may mean a different species- you simply never know what you are going to catch! In addition to the great variety of fishing, the incredible marine environment makes the day worthwhile. Gray, Minke and Pilot Whales, Stellar Sea Lions, Sea Otters, Puffins and much much more will accompany you on your journey into the crown jewel of Alaska waters.
